Ranjodh Singh nominated as the new President of the Punjab Lalit kala Academy
The General Council of Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi held its first meeting at Punjab Kala Bhawan. Ranjodh Singh, President chaired the meeting in which artist members from all over Punjab participated and Executive Board was elected unanimously for a term of three years. The veteran Sculptor, A.C. Saagar was elected Vice- President and eminent artist R.M. Singh was unanimously elected as Secretary of the Akademi along with Executive Committee members Sandeep Joshi, TPS Sandhu, Biba Balwant, Sadhna Sanghar. Drawn from different genre of visual arts, the Akademi includes a number of other illustrious artists like Sukhwant, Jalandhar; Tara Singh, Raikot; Kanwaljit Singh, Kapurthala; Gurmeet Singh, Ludhiana; P.S. Gill, Phillaur and Parminder Singh, Kapurthala. The Principals of Govt. College of Art, Chanigarh, Govt. Architecture College, Chandigarh and Head of Fine Arts Dept., Punjab University, Chandigarh are also ex-officio members with Director Govt. Museum and Art Gallery Chandigarh. The Akademi has decided to take its activities to the remotest parts of Punjab and identify the genuine talent at the grass root level.
The Akademi has distinction of installing a bronze bust of the founder Chiarman of Punjab Arts Council and greatest promoter of arts, Dr. M. S. Randhawa at the premises of Punjab Kala Bhawan before officially launching the Akademi. The legendary artist Sobha Singh made the bust in early seventies of last century. A creative workshop with the rarely talented young sculptors has been designed in near future besides, having exhibitions of traditional and contemporary art. The President Ranjodh Singh assured that activities of Akademi will be equally distributed in all parts of Punjab and the artists from every region will be associated with the creative work.
